As consumers increasingly delegate online shopping and purchasing decisions to artificial intelligence agents, Affirm Holdings CEO Max Levchin anticipates a significant shift toward interest-free installment loans. According to the executive, AI agents tasked with comparing various payment terms and financial products will naturally steer shoppers toward financing methods that allow consumers to spread out purchase costs without incurring additional interest fees.

The Growing Role of Interest-Free Financing

These interest-free installment plans have already established a substantial foothold in the company’s financial ecosystem, accounting for nearly 28 percent of Affirm’s gross merchandise volume during the September quarter. As automated shopping assistants become more sophisticated at evaluating complex checkout options, industry leaders expect the preference for cost-transparent, zero-interest borrowing to accelerate across digital retail platforms.
